To the North East of Lisbon, most of the vineyards are on the flat river valley of the river Tagus (Tejo). Name means 'Bank of the Tejo'. Grapes are less prone to attack by the Atlantic winds. There is a steady increase of ambitious winemakers making exciting wines from these fertile soils on large estates.
